Executive Board 2012 – 2013

Robert Andres, Chairman
Robert is a first year Master of Public Policy student at the Georgetown Public Policy Institute. After receiving a bachelor’s degree in Political Science, with honors, from the University of Georgia in 2010, Robert worked on both state and federal political campaigns, running communications. His focus at Georgetown is on political strategy, and determining effective ways to achieve policy enactment in the face of partisan gridlock.

Ana Yancheva, Associate Director
Ana is a first year Master of Public Policy student at the Georgetown Public Policy Institute. She received her bachelor’s degree in Economics, with honors from Princeton University in 2012, and she is currently working as a research assistant at GPPI. She is interested in financial policy in developing countries, especially in the Eastern Europe and East Asia regions.

Qiuchi Zhou, Associate Director
Qiuchi is a Chinese student working on her Master of Public Policy at Georgetown Public Policy Institute. Before coming to DC, she spent two years studying at Hamline University in Minnesota as a transfer student and received a bachelor’s degree in General Business. Angela worked at admission office, interned in McVay Youth Program and Minnesota public TV station in the previous years. Her focus is on social entrepreneurship and international development. At this moment, she is interning at Ashoka, a non-profit organization that supports social entrepreneurship.

Communications:
Anna Potter, Director

Anna is a first year student at the Georgetown Public Policy Institute obtaining her Master in Public Policy. Anna graduated from California Lutheran University in 2008, receiving a bachelor’s degree with honors in International Studies and French, and prior to coming to Georgetown, she worked in a variety of central administrative roles with the Public Interest Network, a network of state-based not-for-profit organizations. Her current studies focus on state and urban policy, with a goal of effective policy implementation on the local level.

Monica Tong, Associate Director – Outreach
Monica is a first year student at the Georgetown Public Policy Institute pursuing a Master of Public Policy. A California native, Monica is interested in a variety of policy areas at the state and local level. In 2011, she graduated from the University of California, Riverside, with a B.A. in Political Science. During her year off, she interned with the State Assembly, which heavily influenced her dedication to public service. Monica enjoys traveling as well as spending time with friends and family.

Miaomiao Shao, Associate Director – Online
Miaomiao Shao hails from Beijing, China, and is currently a first year Master of International Development Policy student at the Georgetown University’s Public Policy Institute. After graduating from Ohio University with bachelor’s degree in Journalism and certificate in International Relations with honors in 2011, Miaomiao spent a year of working as a journalist and producer in an international media production company in New York City before starting her further study in Georgetown University. Miaomiao is very interested in international system and the behavior of states, international politics, and conflict resolution. Her concentration at GPPI is on international development policy-making and the evaluation of programs involved in economic development and political and social change in the developing world.

Planning & Development:
Aleksandra Liaplina, Director
Alexandra is a Fulbright Scholar from Russia doing Masters in International Development Policy (MIDP) at the Georgetown Public Policy Institute. She has a Bachelors Degree in International Relations and a Masters Degree in Economics from St. Petersburg State University. She has also earned a Certificate in Global Affairs from the New York University. Before coming to Georgetown, she has acquired several years of professional experience within both public and private sectors with Intel Corporation, the United Nations, the Russian Ministry for Economic Development, the U.S. Consulate General and other organizations. She is currently focusing on Information and Communication Technologies for Development (ICT4D).

Alexander Berg-Jacobsen, Associate Director
Alex is a first year Master of Public Policy student at the Georgetown Public Policy Institute. Following graduation from the University of Illinois, Alex worked both on a national campaign and in a congressional office, gaining experience primarily with local outreach. He has been a Security Specialist at Aegis Defense Services LLC since 2010.  His focus at Georgetown is on education policy and identifying ways to improve the partnership between government agencies and private industry in a variety of fields.

Elizabeth Clark, Associate Director
Elizabeth is in her first year of the Master of Public Policy Program at the Georgetown Public Policy Institute. She received a bachelor’s degree in French Literature and History at the University of Utah. Following an internship at the European Parliament in Brussels she completed a Master’s degree from the University of Utah in Middle East Studies and has travelled and worked extensively in Turkey. At Georgetown, she is studying international policy with a focus in comparative policy, international relations, and cultural heritage.

Jacqueline Woods, Associate Director
Jacqueline is a first year Masters of Public Policy student at the Georgetown Public Policy Institute. After receiving a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a bachelor’s degree in Law, with honours, from the University of Queensland in 2008, Jacqueline worked in law and government in Australia. She most recently worked on the Australian Government’s emissions trading legislation. Her focus at Georgetown is on political strategy and advocacy, and finding ways to promote balance in political debate.
